Silence
I started walking daily along the river when Covid hit as a means of self-preservation. With everyone home 24/7 it became the only way I could break away from the pressures of home life, get some exercise, and grab a little bit of peace and quiet. Over the months different friends have joined me and it has become a great way of staying connected and supporting each other through the stresses of living in these crazy Covid times. But every once in a while, I go it alone and the silence can almost feel lonely and uncomfortable. It bothered me at first; there is nothing I love more than being in the company of good friends. However, sometimes friends couldn’t join me, and it was in those times alone when I realized new insights, clarity, and opportunities for reflection. In fact, I discovered that it is in the silence I have found that I hear a lot. Silence can speak volumes without saying a word! Just as this walk last week with our first snowfall spoke volumes of beauty and peace.
