Rotten Apples
Whenever I visit the Okanagan one of my favourite things to do is to take a drive through the wineries and the fruit orchards in the countryside. Every season has its own beauty and grandeur. However, what surprised me on a recent visit was the amount of apples blanketing the ground and rotting in the orchards; another impact of Covid 19. You see, the orchards rely on temporary foreign workers to pick the fruit and work in the orchards. Without these workers crossing the border to work in the orchards because of Covid 19 the work was left to local citizens. Unfortunately, not enough of this work was completed and as a result, so much has gone to waste. We certainly live in the land of plenty if only the fruit could have been harvested and given to those in need. Truly a heartbreaking sight in need of improvement.
