Mushrooms
Lately a lot of similar themed life-lesson messages have been coming my way which to me means I am meant to especially pay attention. Lessons of taking the road less traveled, that most things worthwhile are not easily accomplished, and that anything worth having is worth working for. I went to market again and I met up with the “mushroom man”. In the spring I had purchased morels from him and this time I bought chanterelle mushrooms. We had a lovely visit talking about his mushroom business, the varieties, and the work that goes into harvesting them. As he spoke, he told me that the less plentiful the mushroom the more costly they become- not a big surprise. But also the more plentiful, the less costly they become, the easier it is to pick, but also how much more time he must spend picking them and then hiking out for a 50 minute hike with them. All of which got me to thinking again about value vs cost of anything in our lives. Nothing comes free, everything has a price and in fact perhaps the things we cherish and appreciate most in our lives are the things that have challenged us, bent us in ways we thought not possible, were hardest to attain, and took us to places where few would dare to travel. I have to say…. I often resist that path but when I have been brave enough to venture that way it has never disappointed! What more challenging routes have you taken? I’d love to hear about it.
