Proudly Canadian
As Canada Day is rapidly approaching and most celebrations are cancelled across the country, I began thinking about what it means to be Canadian. My mind began racing with images of some of our quirky characteristics as well as many of the endearing and globally admired qualities. Yes, we are a different breed and I couldn’t be prouder. For starters, on a scale of politeness and do-gooders, we Canadians are tops. Uber polite, we apologize for errors and infractions we don’t even commit. It is a daily staple! We are generally courteous and a reserved bunch but put us in a hockey arena and we may become a bit unleashed. Insult the game of hockey and the nice, kind, even keeled, good natured Canadian will likely not take it and the gloves are bound to come off! However, as a whole we are a positive, peaceful bunch with complaints generally directed at the weather and that certainly gives us lots to complain about! We stay in our own lane and ignore what’s popular as we pour gravy and cheese curds over french fries, do away with pennies, making see through money, and confuse our neighbours with our metric system. We have proven time and time again that we are tough, resilient, and not easily crushed. As the world buckled under Covid we again showed our ingenuity and determination to find a way to enjoy our favorite brew of Tim Horton’s coffee married with our passion for hockey while maintaining social distance. Now that’s talent!
Yes, I’m a proud Canadian.
Eh” don’t you agree?!
