Nine Lives?
When the boys got their learners license all in one week I knew I needed to buckle up because it was going to be a bumpy ride. However, I never expected what happened to me the other day…. Lachlan and I had just returned from doing some driving practice and I was taking Liam across the city to his football 🏈 drills. We hopped into the car with Liam at the wheel. I enjoyed the chauffeured ride and then wished him well and said goodbye and I began making the drive back home. As I got onto the main road with a steep decline, I began to apply the brakes but they seemed unresponsive!! I thought maybe my shoes were not allowing me the ability to press the brake pedal adequately so I quickly flipped my shoes off. As I pressed firmly on the brake pedal again with my bare foot the car still kept rolling! Feeling my sense of panic rapidly escalating I began scrambling for ideas to slow the car down. Not being a great problem solver in times of pressure the only thought I had was of Fred Flintstone’s foot stop which didn’t seem like much of a great idea! Then I thought about the emergency brake. But as I reached for it I noticed that it was already in the upright position!!!!! In fact the speedometer indicated that it was on by the red exclamation mark which was lit up on the speedometer !, and had likely been on for the entire ride to the field! As a result, the brake fluid had gotten to a thin boiling point and was no longer doing what it was suppose to do-stopping the car!!! I somehow managed to pull off on the side of the road into the muddy curb-side and eventually came to a halt.
Piecing it all together that night I realized that Lachlan had done exactly what his driving instructor had told him to do which was to always apply the emergency brake when you park the vehicle. Unfortunately neither Liam nor I noticed it until it was completely worn out.The repairs were not cheap, I earned a few more grey hair, we learned an important lesson, and I am thankful it all ended well! Yabadabadooo!!!!
