Never Too Late
Much of my life, like so many of us has been filled with responsibilities, some timing misalignment, lack of funds etc. etc. So many of these life realities have sidelined some dreams and experiences I have wanted for my life along the way. The good news is that there is still time and I have proof of it in the story I am about to share.
My friends, Anna and Franco recently participated in a formal dinner celebration of the first anniversary of their new home. Anticipation of this special night grew as invitations were delivered and decorations were put up until finally the night arrived. Anna and Franco dressed all up in their best attire and headed out for the evening. They were treated to champagne, a 5 course meal, fresh flowers, decorations, and a live jazz band they could dance to until the wee hours of 7:00pm!!! As the evening progressed Franco kept sending me pictures, videos, and texts of the minute by minute run down of all the festivities. He shared how they had never experienced such a party like this in their life and that it was their first ever formal dinner. They loved it all; the music, the scrumptious meal, and just being in the company of others. Franco made a video of the evening where he was filled with gratitude, some tears, and a bit of regret for the many experiences of the “good life” they had not been able to experience over the years.
I share this story for a few reasons. At 86 and 83 they were able to continue to make memories and enjoy experiences they had not been afforded in their earlier years; it wasn’t too late. Secondly, grab those opportunities and invitations when they come along. Opportunities rarely pass along twice in a lifetime and they are what memories are made of so why pass even one by. Lastly, not having had as many special experiences along life’s journey as you would have liked need not make one forever regretful. In the case of Anna and Franco it makes the experiences they make now all the more special and fills their hearts with complete joy, gratitude, and appreciation for each and every moment they share.
Carpe Diem
