My Family Circus!
Well another Mother’s Day has come and gone. A day where we celebrate our mothers and spill out all these sweet and wonderful words and cherished memories of our mothers. As wonderful as that is, sometimes I yearn to hear about the raw, authentic “mothering” lived out moments. That’s mostly where I live!! I think that’s more relatable and genuine. As we share stories from the trenches of motherhood we find connection and encouragement in the similar experiences and challenges we all experience. Hence what follows are some of my raw mothering moments with my boys over the years. They aren’t necessarily pretty, perfect, or ideal but they are 100% genuine and lived out mothering from the trenches.
Happy Mothers Day!
One of our twins was crying. I asked our eldest son to check and see what was wrong. He bent down at eye level and asked his baby brother, “what’s your issue?!”
Breakfast time and my four year old arrives at the table and asks, “Mom, I want a martini!”
One of our children was having a nap and decided it was time it was over and so he began calling out, “Mom, Dad”. After several unsuccessful attempts he called out, “Is anyone home?!”.
Once the twins were a couple months old my eldest son said, “I don’t like my brothers anymore. I want new ones!!”
It was soccer season and seemed like every time we headed out the door to play, it began to rain. On one occasion as we were driving to a soccer game the rain began to come down yet again. One of my sons spoke up and asked me, “Mom, can you get God on the telephone and ask him if he can stop the rain during our soccer times?!”.
