Introducing “The Cousins”
Guests starting filing onto one of my recent flights. As I stood in the middle of the cabin helping guests settle into their seats and stow away luggage they began commenting to me that some interesting guests were yet to board. Interesting in what way, I wondered?! I became extra observant for anything that might standout as the guests continued to board.
With the airplane almost completely full it was only a matter of time.
Then it happened, there they were…a big family with Dad leading the way (remember cousin Eddie!?).
As his giant sombrero came down the aisle touching the luggage bins on each side, he headed towards me followed by his wife, wearing Mickey Mouse ears and a mini sombrero attached to her forehead with a giant Mickey Mouse head bauble necklace that flashed neon lights around her neck, I knew they had arrived!!!
With four kids in tow shouting and arguing about their seats all while carrying six light sabres flashing, whirling about, and playing Christmas carols; this was going to be quite the flight! As they got near their seats they threw their items, light sabres and all, into the overhead bins. I managed to catch the light sabres as they fell out as quickly at they were thrown in before landing on someone’s head. With my arms full of flashing sabres I tried to manage not to hit any guests as I struggled to turn the flashing lights and music off, and place them safely away.
The mother then turned to her one son and told him he had to sit next his dad which happened to be beside a couple of nuns who were sitting in perfect posture in their full habit and veil! The son took one look at them and immediately protested loudly shouting, “there is no Hell of a way I’m sitting there”.
The nuns sat up even straighter with looks of shock and dismay. In no time guests began offering their seats so that the family could sit together and the nuns could remain in peace. The flight continued to be quite colorful. Lots of shouting, arguments, eating their food and mine, and complete family chaos continued.
Now, it’s not that uncommon to have to discontinue serving alcohol to guests inflight but what is not common, is having guests request for you to stop serving sugary drinks to other guests onboard!! Well it happened that day!
