Christmas Shopping at 40,000 Feet!
On a recent flight from Winnipeg to Montreal a middle aged, burley looking guest, dressed in camouflage gear, struck up a conversation with our lead flight attendant regarding her boots. He liked them A LOT! He had not seen boots with fabric on the back before and thought it was a novel idea as it would allow for larger calf sizes. I happened upon the conversation as he began describing the size of his wife’s large calves and how these boots would fit her perfectly. I suggested jokingly, that his wife may not appreciate him talking about her large calves with other women !! Within no time he found out where these boots could be purchased and was excited to have managed to check off an item on his Christmas shopping list. The flight attendant continued to talk about her enjoyment of these boots over the course of the two years she had them but how they were now falling apart, had stretched such that they were slipping on her feet, and how she needed to look for a new pair. The guest then asked her what size her boots were and when she responded with, “size 8”, it was a match made in heaven! He immediately reached into his pant pocket and slapped down a fresh $100 bill on the galley table. I asked him if he was serious to which he said, “what more proof do you need?!” The flight attendant said, “ you’ve got yourself a deal!” and promptly pocketed the cash, took off her boots and he happily placed them into his carry on bag and off he went.
Next day the flight attendant arrived for work with a pair of brand new boots!! Would love to know how boots turned out- guess I’ll never know.
But in the spirit of Christmas… It’s the thought that counts!!!!
