Snowed Under!
Last week we had a huge dump of snow overnight. When the boys awoke the next morning and saw all the snow they quickly sprang into action and began building a fort – on our front yard! I must say I was pleasantly surprised as they pried their white knuckles off their keyboards and screens in exchange for fresh air and physical activity. (When they were little we use to spend hours and hours outside playing in the snow but I had no idea that it was something they would still enjoy doing together). It quickly became a family project. We started shaving off snow from every neighbour’s front yard and then from the street. I was the official “grunt snow hauling labourer”. I’ve never shoveled and hauled that much snow over the course of three days in my life. First the boys built a quinzhee. This then grew into the addition of a tower with an observation platform and a tunnel adjoining the two. People started coming to take pictures. Passerby’s rang our doorbell to inquire about the construction and compliment the builders. Even the garbage man stopped and posed for a selfie. As cool as it was I felt it needed one more addition and so came my suggestion of an ice bar serving vodka shots, mink furs on ice stools with a drive through option. Unfortunately so far my creative idea has been vetoed. I thought it would be wonderful in many ways: Covid friendly, promote community spirit, and have a charitably element with each shot of vodka requiring a donation to the Food Bank. But for now I guess I’ll just keep building these magical memories and if nothing else, I now have a new Covid hideaway!
