Best of the Season!!!
It’s that time of year again where fresh veggies and fruit abound.
Nothing excites me more than discovering a new vegetable that I’ve never tried before!
This beauty has an Asian flair to it. It’s called choy sum; has lush green leaves, thick hollow stalks and small yellow flowers. I’d say it’s a cross between broccoli rabe and bok choy. While all parts of the plant are edible, choy sum is cultivated to produce tender, crunchy stems and flavourful flowers which have a mild ‘mustard-like’ taste. Many of these vegetable’s flavours are hard to describe so it’s best you just take a leap of faith and try them for yourself! I prepared mine in a frying pan with olive oil and fresh garlic tossing about for only a few minutes; so as to maintain that crunchiness with every bite!
Aside from being delicious, choy sum is packed with Vitamin C, Vitamin A, protein, calcium, and iron.
Delicious, nutritious, and an absolutely beautiful addition to your dinner plate.
Give it a try it won’t disappoint!
